In the wake of the killing of two lawyers by police during a protest in Daska on Monday, the lawyers here held various protest demonstrations against the incident, and announced boycott of the court proceedings on the call made by the Punjab Bar Council across the province.
The counsel in Mandi Bahaudding demanded resignation of the Punjab chief minister, saying that the latter had proved incompetent to protect the life and property of the citizens. In a meeting, they planned staging a protest on May 26 and blocking roads. They said police officials were no more protectors of the citizens rather they were murderers. They said there was no justification for Shahbaz Sharif to hold the office of chief minister after the gruesome incident. Munawar Abid Advocate expressed sadness over the killing of the lawyers. He pledged to lie-down on the road to register his protest during the demonstration.
Likewise, the Muzaffargarh lawyers expressed solidarity with their colleagues of Daska and announced boycotted the court proceedings. President Sardar Muhammad Iqbal said that there would be complete strike in the courts of 10 districts of Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions on May 26 on the call made by the Punjab Bar Council. They condemned the killing of Daska Bar President Rana Khalid Abbas and another lawyer by the police during a protest demonstration. The council has said that no lawyer would appear in the court today.
The Gujranwala lawyers also held a demonstration. The enraged lawyers attacked the police officials performing their duties at DHQ Hospital and also in the courts premises and thrashed them. The protesters also broke the front screen of a police vehicle while the police personnel ran away leaving the vehicle. The District Bar of Gujranwala announced to boycott the judicial proceedings for two days against the incident.
In Multan, the lawyers of Multan went on strike to express solidarity with their comrades from Daska as they suspended their professional duties and boycotted court proceedings here on Monday. The lawyers also staged a demonstration at Chowk Kachehri and allegedly smashed the wind and backscreens of a police vehicle. The President of High Court Bar Muhammad Ali Gilani said that there would be complete strike in High Court Multan Bench and District courts of ten districts of Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions on May 26 (Tuesday) on the call of Punjab Bar Council. The call was given to condemn Daska Bar’s President Rana Khalid Abbas and another lawyer.
In Hafizabad, lawyers of DBA and TBA Pindi Bhattian took out rallies to protest against the ‘police gardi’ in Daska causing death of two lawyers led by Syed Nasir Hussain Sherazi President and Amanullah Sandhu General Secretary DBA, the lawyers paraded from the Judicial Complex Hafizabad to Jinnah Chowk, raising slogans against the highhandedness of police and blocked traffic at Jinnah Chowk for some time. They demanded immediate arrest of the responsible policemen who tortured the protesting lawyers.
According to the DBA President, the lawyers of Hafizabad district would boycotts the courts of Tuesday also.
