ISLAMABAD - Pakistan, a nation facing unrelenting strikes on its sovereignty and land by the American drones, has equipped its own armed forces with indigenously developed surveillance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The first fleet of drones – namely Burraq and Shahpar – was inducted on Monday in Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force.
The addition of these un-armed drones to the inventory of armed forces is being termed as a landmark achievement by the defence experts. In the future these UAVs can also be gainfully employed in various socio-economic development projects.
The induction ceremony was attended by Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Strategic Plans Division Director General Lt-Gen (r) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai and senior officers from armed forces, scientists and engineers, according to an ISPR press release.
General Kayani, while appreciating the work of NESCOM scientists and engineers, highlighted that the induction of these surveillance capable UAVs in Pakistan Armed Forces was a force multiplier and it would substantially enhance their target acquisition capabilities in real time.
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Kayani, who is going to retire soon, also paid farewell visit to Air Headquarters on Monday. He called on Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt in his office. The Air Chief lauded Gen Kayani’s services in strengthening the defence of Pakistan and contributing towards an unprecedented Tri-Service synergy, said a press release issued by PAF.
While talking to the Air Chief, General Kayani conveyed his deep satisfaction in the readiness state and awareness of the aerial defenders of the nation, towards their responsibilities and appreciated their high moral. He also expressed his satisfaction on the niche attained by the PAF amongst the modern air forces of the world.
Army Chief Kayani also paid his farewell visit to Naval Headquarters in Islamabad. He was welcomed by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Asif Sandila. Both discussed professional matters. Sandila highly acclaimed the role of army chief in strengthening the armed forces and for facing the daunting challenges faced by the country. He also lauded Pakistan Army for its monumental role for safeguard, integrity and sovereignty of country tooth and nail.
