HYDERABAD - Qari Hashim, an accused of Daniel Pearl murder case, who was acquitted by a court, was detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) by police on Saturday.
An anti-terrorism court in Hyderabad Central Jail on Friday acquitted Qari Hashim of abduction and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter, Daniel Pearl, in Karachi in 2002. Prisons IG Nusrat Hussain Mangan, talking to media persons at Nara Jail in Hyderabad, said the Sindh government had ordered detention of Qari Hashim for 90 days under the MPO.
He said 85 dangerous prisoners had been imprisoned in Central Jail Hyderabad.
Replying to a question, he said the Karachi Central Jail tunnel incident was being investigated and scores of suspects had been arrested. He said the security had been on high alert in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur jails after the jailbreak bid in Karachi.
Nusrat Mangan said the security in jails would be stepped up during Muharram with the help of Rangers, police and Frontier Constabulary.
