UoG freshers taught how to build nation

GUJRAT -  Thousands of freshers were welcomed at the University of Gujrat (UoG) during three sessions held at its Hafiz Hayat Campus.

As the number of freshers exceeded the total capacity of Allama Iqbal Hall, they were placed in three sessions with the re-enactment of all the key activities.

Dr Ziaul Qayyum, the vice chancellor, conveyed the participants the message of peace and tolerance. He urged the audience to devote all their energies towards the establishment of a peaceful and just society, and must love their country as a true patriot as they go about pursuing their academic goals.

The ceremony titled “Orientation Batch 2016 - Welcome Freshmen at University of Gujrat” was organised by the varsity’s Students Services Centre (SSC). It provided the new students an insight into the working of the university, its rules and regulations and other necessary information with regard to their study and stay at the UoG.

“We need to learn and promote supreme social and cultural values to pave the way for the establishment of a society which is free of violence and intolerance,” Dr Zia said. “Since you are a part of very large Hayatian community, you should go all-out for bright future of Pakistan.”

He added the students would also learn a great deal about how to become good human beings during their higher education journey at the UoG.

Registrar Dr Tahir Aqil highlighted the significance of personality development and urged the students they must uphold their cultural and moral values.

“The University of Gujrat has achieved a number of milestones in the field of research and development,” Dr Tahir Aqil said.

Director SSC Muhammad Yaqoob gave a detailed introduction of various UoG departments and extra-curricular opportunities available for the students.

Director Media Sheikh Abdul Rashid said: “Our new generation is the hope of our bright future. They are the builders of the nation and centre of their parents and teachers’ wishes and aspirations. The UoG faculty and administration will do all they can to help them achieve their ambition in life.”

Deans of various faculties and chairpersons of departments Dr Muhammad Fahim Malik, Dr Fauzia Maqsood, Dr Fareeshullah Yousufzai, Dr Muhammd Sulman Tahir and Dr Nadeem Safwaan, also spoke and provided valuable tips to the new-comers. Some UoG departments set up stalls showcasing their products and services for the newcomers.
