KARACHI - Massive participation of the Pakhtuns in the political show of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf here on December 25 has put a question mark over the future of the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa-based political parties in the metropolis.
Some political pundits are of the view that the PTI can mitigate political role of the Awami National Party in the largest city of the country, as the peace agenda of Imran Khan has attracted the attention of about all the ethnic groups. Imran Khan’s big rally swept Pakistan’s biggest city where the people of all the colour, castes and races gathered near the mausoleum of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah to express the solidarity with the legend.
The Sunday rally succeeded to attract massive numbers of citizens from all ethnic groups helping the Tehreek-e-Insaf eliminate the gap between the communities living in Karachi.
Though the political figure of any political and religious party has not announced to join the Tehreek-e-Insaf in the three days long stay of Karachi but the Sunday’s tsunami has shaken the Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa-based parties. The meeting witnessed very large participation from KP and Hazara living in Karachi, setting alarm bell ringing for the Awami National Party and Hazarawal parties and the PakhtunKhwa Milli Awami Party. 
The participation of the Awami National Party and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party local office-bearers and activists in the PTI meeting is really a threat to these local political parties. It is pertinent to mention here that PTI leader Khursheed Kasuri, in his address to the PTI gathering, said, “I know you love Imran Khan too much.”
Former spokesman Sindh Qadir Khan of the ANP accepted the outflow of the Pakhtun workers from the ANP to Tehreek-e-Insaf and termed that this was the result of the nepotism of ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed. He alleged that Shahi Syed did not oblige the workers of the party and failed to deliver good performance.
Qadir Khan said that the disappointed workers of ANP and Pakhtun community have no choice to work in the ANP and they preferred to join Tehreek-e-Insaf for solution to their issues. The massive participation of the peoples belongs to all communities also eliminate the gap between the communities living in Karachi.
Ahmed Mehsud, a shopkeeper, said that he left the ANP and has joined join a national party, PTI, saying that Imran Khan was capable of bringing out the country from present crises and unite the people of Karachi without any discrimination of colour, cast and races. He said that hundreds of Mohajir, Pakhtun and Baloch communities were killed in the violence and we need Imran Khan to maintain peace and love in Karachi.
The presence of a large number of women and youth indicated that Imran Khan had been successful in reaching out to those in Pakistani society who had never bothered to cast votes or take politicians seriously. The overwhelming participation also posed a threat to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, the largest political party of Karachi.
MQM’s Sukkur public meeting soon: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has announced that the MQM would soon hold a public meeting in Sukkur.
Talking to the members of the zonal committee of MQM Sukkur Zone via telephone, he said the date of the public meeting would be announced after consultation with the Co-ordination Committee, Interior Sindh Tanzimi Committee, and zones.
Altaf said that the MQM workers of Sukkur had rendered unforgettable sacrifices for the party and had faced challenges and hardships with courage. He directed the co-ordination committee to give full co-operation to the Sukkur zone for holding the public meeting.
