COAS Raheel Sharif reaches Afghanistan

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has reached on Afghanistan in what is being touted as a highly important official visit to Afghanistan, Waqt News reported. “The main focus of the visit is the peace process in Afghan Taliban and government and mutual border security issues,” media reported.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) the Army Chief will meet important political and security officials of Afghanistan. “He will offer Pakistan’s enhanced role as a third party in negotiation process between Taliban and Afghan government,” ISPR sources told the media.

COAS' visit is important in the context of recent Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Afghanistan. Both Pakistan and India are vital actors for sustainable peace process in unstable Afghanistan.

According to Afghan media reports the meeting between COAS Raheel Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has started. "High level political leadership is also present in the meeting," media reports revealed.
