RAWALPINDI - Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Tuesday said free and fair elections were his dream and he was glad that it was being realised soonAccording to media reports, the COAS expressed his thoughts while talking to reporters informally. Kayani said since he obtained the army chief office in 2007, he had tried his level best to ensure that there should be no interference in election process. He continued to say that he had always supported the democratic process as per spirit of the Constitution in the five years.The COAS said he advocated free and transparent elections as well as peaceful transition of power. He said he knew that doubts and suspicions were being created, but his intention should be gauged not from his statements but from his actions and from the ground facts. The army chief said it was his desire that the elections were held simultaneously in the country, including Balochistan. He said that in 2008 he stopped interference in the political process and today again he had the same mission. He said he had assured the chief election commissioner of complete help and cooperation. The army chief stated that electing either competent or incompetent rulers was a prerogative of the people and not of the army. He said: “We will accept the election results wholeheartedly. It was our constitutional duty to be with the government, irrespective of who is at the helm of affairs.
