The World Health Organisation’s teams were monitoring the ongoing anti-polio vaccination campaign in Sialkot district in a bid to make it a success, said a WHO representative.
Dr Naveed Haider was addressing a meeting held at Sialkot DCO Office to review the pace and progress of anti-polio vaccination. He said that no polio case has yet been detected in Sialkot district. The meeting was told that more than 571,297 children under the age of five years were being given vaccine.
Sialkot DHO Dr Javaid Warraich told the meeting that 1,032 were going door-to-door, 130 fixed teams at hospitals, BHUs and RHCs, 55 transit teams at Lorry Addas, bus stops and eight roaming teams were administrating the polio vaccine drops to the children.
He revealed that 126 special monitoring officers and 215 areas supervisors were monitoring the campaign directly at union council level in Sialkot district. Meanwhile, the routine work in the offices of all the 124 union councils remained badly disrupted due to the non-availability of the UC secretaries for the second consecutive day.
The visiting people had to suffer a great ordeal in getting their problems solved at their respective union councils.
The secretaries continued making announcements on the loudspeakers of mosques in their respective areas for giving motivation and inspiration to the people regarding the anti-polio vaccination.
