Guard killed as industrialist’s house targeted

MARDAN - A private security guard was killed while two others got seriously injured when an explosive device planted to the house of a well-known industrialist exploded here on Friday evening.
The incident occurred in the limits of Par Hoti Police Station, police and local sources told TheNation. Gulshaad, son of Subhan-ud-Din, resident of Azakhel Nowshera, who is security incharge at the house of well-known industrialist Sami ur Rehman Khan, son of Mati ur Rehman, at Mardan-Swabi Road, reported to police that he along with other security guards named Mosa Khan, son of Shah Wali, Mihar Mohammad, son of Ameer Mohammad, and Kher Mohammad, son of Hazrat Mohammad, were performing security duty on Friday evening.
He said unidentified persons planted explosive device to the main gate of the house, which exploded at 7:50 pm with a big bang. As a result, Mosa Khan died on the spot while Mihar Mohammad and Kher Mohammad got seriously injured and were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.
He further said that the explosion also partially damaged the security room and broke its windowpane.
Police cordoned off the area and started investigation. Police registered first information report (FIR) of the incident. Sami ur Rehman is brother of Awami National Party (ANP) former MNA Haji Naseem ur Rehman and also close relative of PTI district organiser Mohmmad Atif Khan and well-known eye specialist Dr Zia ul Islam. Sources said that this family was doing tobacco business in Mardan and their company purchased tobacco from tobacco growers of Mardan and Swabi. Sources added that their company did not pay money to majority of growers and for the last few weeks several tobacco growers belonging to Mardan and Swabi took out protest rallies and also arranged protest demonstrations for their due payments.
