Our Staff reporter SIALKOT - Following strong anti-police protest by the aggrieved family of a deceased youth Shahid, allegedly, tortured to death by the police, the Pasrur City Police on Tuesday registered a case (FIR No. 217/2011) under sections 109 and 302 PPC against its accused SHO Inspector Malik Mukhtar, Sub-Inspector Abdul Rashid, ASI Rehmat and four constables including Murtaza for torturing to death the suspect accused the other evening. The case has been registered on the report of the deceased Shahids elder brother Muhammad Shakeel and arrested the accused policemen. DSP Pasrur Munawar Hussain Bhatti told the newsmen that justice would be ensured to the aggrieved family. Reportedly, the personnel of Pasrur City Police lifted village Dariya Nangal-Pasrur based youth 28-year-old Muhammad Shahid over a suspicion of his alleged involvement in a dacoity case. The police brutally tortured him in the police station, due which his condition became critical and police handed over him to the heirs. Who took him to Pasrur THQ Hospital, where he breathed his last Monday evening. The police handed over the body to the heirs for burial after autopsy. The hospital doctors confirmed the physical torture on him. The deceased youth was laid to rest in his native graveyard in the presence of hundreds of mourners. Earlier, the heirs placed the body on road and staged a protest against anti-police. They kept the traffic blocked for an hour by burning tyres on the road. They chanted anti-police slogans and demanded stern action against the accused police officials. The senior police officials held negotiations with the protesting people and assured them of stern action against the accused policemen. Sialkot Press Club polls: Arrangements are all set to hold free, impartial and transparent annual elections of Sialkot Press Club, scheduled to be held on July 28. Now, total 127 members will cast their votes in the Sialkot Press Club elections. On August 17, 2009, the Sialkot police had sealed the building of Sialkot Press Club following the mounted tussle between the local journalists quarrelling groups. It remained sealed for five days and later was unsealed by the district administration on August 22, 2011, following the provincial governments interference, in this crucial matter.
