Balochs being converted into minority: BNP

QUETTA - The acting President Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) Jahanzaib Jamaldini has said that through a conspiracy Baloch people were being converted into minority on their own land.
“Millions of Afghan refugees have been enlisted as locals in recent house-listing and BNP outrighly rejected it and would resist the conspiracies against Balochistan,” he said this while addressing a Press conference at Quetta Press Club here on Tuesday.
He said that through a conspiracy on the part of Islamabad millions of Afghan refugees had been settled across Balochistan who had obtained NIC and passports without any hurdle.
“There are more than 4 million Afghan refugees and most of them are not registered,” he said, adding, that inclusion of Afghan refugees in recent house-listing should be cancelled.
BNP leader said the number of population of Pakhtun districts had been increased manifold in recent census as compared to last census of 1998 so that Balochs could be converted into minority.
“Population of Qila Abdullah district according to 1998 census is 370,269 while the new population has been shown 2138997 which shows increase,” he said, adding, that we outrighly reject such census and demand for immediate cancellation of registration of Afghan refugees. Responding to a question regarding new Pakhtun province, Jamaldini said that they had no objection on formation of Pakhtun province consisting of Pakhtun districts, however, this demand should be made from Islamabad not from Baloch. “Besides formation of new provinces the areas of Balochistan, including Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur should be incorporated into Balochistan,” he added.
“Secretary Statistics is on record had confessed in Islamabad that a big irregularities have been made in recent house listing in Balochistan,” he
said, adding, that they had great respect for Afghan refugees but they should be repatriated to their country.
To a query, he said that 70 per cent Balochs live in Sindh, 28 per cent in Punjab and 6 per cent in Kyhber Pakhtunkwa but we never demanded that Sindh should be called Baloch-Sindhi province or Baloch-Punjabi province.
“Balochs are in a state of war. Thousands of people have gone missing and hundreds of bodies have been recovered. In such a situation demanding for new province is tantamount to rubbing salt on the wounds of Baloch people,” BNP leader remarked.
Yet another query about upcoming elections, he said that BNP was a democratic party and would adopt all democratic means for the rights of Baloch people.
Earlier, Fauzia Marri leader of PPP announced to join BNP alongwith her dozens of companions.  She said that PPP government had failed to address the grievance of Baloch people as recovery of bullet-riddled bodies of missing persons and enforced disappearances of political workers had become a routine matter.
