KARACHI - Renowned social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi will undergo kidney operation at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant today, said his son Faisal Edhi.
The younger Edhi appealed the people to pray for his father. World famed doctor and head of SIUT Dr. Adeeb Rizvi along with his team will operate upon Edhi. Faisal Edhi said that several politicians including Aseefa Bhutto Zardari had arrived for inquiring after the health of Mr. Edhi. Rehman Malik and Malik Riaz have also offered to sponsor treatment of Edhi. “We are thankful for their gesture, but I must add that my family is satirised with my father’s treatment at SIUT and Dr. Adeeb Rizvi is like a family to us.”
Abdul Sattar Edhi created a charitable empire Edhi Foundation out of nothing, masterminding Pakistan’s largest welfare organisation. He is more than a national hero in Pakistan for his invaluable services for humanity.
Edhi has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize. Motivated by a spiritual quest for justice, over the years Edhi and his team have created maternity wards, morgues, orphanages, shelters, and homes for the elderly — all aimed at helping those in society who cannot help themselves. Abandoned children and the elderly, battered women, the disabled, drug addicts; Edhi’s foundation now houses some 5,700 people in 17 shelters across the country.
It employs around 3,000 people, many of whom were former residents. The project Bilquis Edhi is most proud of is the baby cradles adoption service.
