LEAs pre-empt plot to hit shrines, Multan airport

The law enforcing agencies are learnt to have arrested the kidnappers of Deputy Secretary of National Assembly besides 12 other terrorists involved in heinous crimes like killings, kidnappings and bank dacoities.
Sources disclosed that the arrested outlaws are being quizzed by the agencies and automatic weapons, suicide jackets, rocket launchers and other items used for terrorism have been recovered from their possession. The terrorists were planning to carry out attacks on Multan Airport, historic shrines at Qila Qasim Bagh and other sensitive spots but the timely action from the secret agencies foiled their plans.
Sources added that at least four police officials were also on hit list of the terrorists. The security personnel carried out a string of raids in different areas of the district and picked the gangsters and terrorists.
Similarly, the gang involved in kidnapping of Deputy Secretary of National Assembly Moazam Kalroo has also been busted. The gangsters had abducted Mr Kalroo from Nawabpur area and released him after receiving heavy ransom. The same gang committed a number of bank robberies.
Sources said that the terrorists and gangsters would be handed over to district police in a few days after completion of interrogation.
ANP PROTEST: The workers of Awami National Party (ANP) staged a demonstration at Chowk Nawan Shehr on Wednesday to condemn the killing of their leader Dr Zia Uddin Farooqui in Karachi.
The protesters assembled at the Chowk under the leadership of Pir Tariq, Nadeem Qureshi, Saleh Muhammad and Muhammad Ali Niaz and shouted slogans against the killers. The speakers said on this occasion that the Government has failed to protect the lives of political activists. They added that drug mafia and terrorists had made the entire society hostage. They demanded immediate arrest of the killers. They said that Dr Ziauddin had been under threat from extremists but nothing was done to give him protection.
