MWM senior leader gunned down in capital

ISLAMABAD - A senior leader of Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen was killed when some unknown persons sprayed bullets at him in E/11-4 Sector of the capital Wednesday evening, police said.

The deceased, identified as Muhammad Nawaz Irfani, was the prayer leader (imam) of Parachinar Main Mosque of Fiqh-e-Jaferia and was residing in Street No 22 of the E/11-4 Sector.

According to initial reports, Nawaz was going to his residence when some masked armed men suddenly appeared and sprayed a volley of bullets at him, killing him on the spot. The attackers ran away after committing the crime.

On receiving information, the local police rushed to the site, cordoned off the area and collected some bullet shells lying close to the dead body. They also took the body into custody and sent it to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) has given the government a 12-hour ultimatum to arrest the killers of Allama Nawaz Irfani.
Initial reports suggested that Irfani, who had recently moved from Parachinar after serving as the main cleric of the area’s major Imambargah, was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists in Islamabad’s E-11 Sector.

Condemning the incident, MWM leader Allama Nasir Abbas and others demanded of the government to arrest the culprits behind the killing in next 12 hours. Shia Ulema Council (SUC) also condemned the attack, saying the government had given the militants a free hand to kill anyone they wished.
