ISLAMABAD (APP) A three-day national polio eradication campaign will start from Monday throughout the country including the federal capital to immunise children under-five years of age. Director of Directorate of Health Services of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Dr. Hasan Orooj told APP here on Sunday that total 125,000 children would be vaccinated during the campaign in the city. He said 357 vaccination teams would administer polio drops to the children, which would be supervised by 15 zonal supervisors. The capital city has been divided into 15 zone with each zone consisting of 5 to 6 sectors. There would be 75 sector supervisors. The teams would move door to door to administer polio drops to the children to achieve the target of polio elimination from the area. Each mobile team will comprise two members. In total about 714 volunteers, including students and members of some health organisations, have been trained for the purpose. Some 105 fixed centres have been established at different hospitals and other institutions while 50 transit point centres would be set up on different intersections on entry and exit points of the city to vaccinate children. Dr Orooj has requested the school administrations to allow the DHS to establish fixed centres in the premises of schools. According to independent observers, 98 per cent children under 5-year age in the capital were vaccinated during August 2010 polio campaign.
