Poor sanitation sends tempers fraying

Our Staff reporter CHINIOT - The miseries of the inhabitants of city multiplied due to unhygienic sanitary conditions prevailing in the city. Sewerage pipes lines laid down by the TMA for the drainage of sewage water are now insufficient as the population of the city has increased manifold. Many streets are seen flooded with obnoxious smelling water, spelling over from the choked pipes. It has become almost impossible for pedestrians to walk through without sullying their clothes. The apathy of the TMA is so much that Moazzam Shah area the dirty water is flowing out of the drains and the roads are submerged under this dirty water one day or the other. The heaps of filth are seen at many places were the mosquitoes are breeding. The TMA is not sprinkling pesticides due to which it is likely that the dengue fever may erupt anytime. TMA is indirectly prompting the breeding of mosquitoes. In most parts of the city the TMA personnel are not spraying and where they are spraying no results are seen. The insecticide are proving ineffective and useless. Some of the intelligential apprehend that these insecticide are fake. They balmed that the officials related with the cleanliness were involved in corruption and they were devouring the funds. The TMA officers do not visit most parts of the city due to which the personell is not working and not sweeping the roads and streets. Chiniot District Bar Association observed strike on the problem of filth heaps and un-cleanliness and called on the TMA to clean the city and spray to combat the dengue fever. The Bar Associations of Tehsil Lalian and Bhowana also condemned the relevant TMAs for not cleaning and not spraying the tehsils and the District Headquarters. Muza Hersa Sheikh is submerged under the rainwater. The people are much worried because the TMA is not paying heed to their sufferings. They urged the authorities concerned to take immediate action to improve the sanitary conditions in the city. The Tehsil Municipal Officer while talking to this scribe said that the TMA staff has been directed to pay full heed to cleanliness and spray. As the monsoon season is not over, therefore full fledged drainage is not possible, he added. However TMA staff are struggling to make the city and its suburbs clean. On the other hand, DCO Dr Irshad Ahmad has said that no dengue fever case has been reported in the district. The DCO appointed team of officials to survey the city and the surrounding areas to check the cleanliness. The DCO has prepared insecticides spray plan for union councils in the city and has directed the District Officer Health to complete fogging in the city. He further said that the media could ply vital role to create the awareness about dengue fever among the masses. On the occasion, District Officer Health Dr Munir Ahmad said that 123 suspected dengue fever patients were brought to different hospitals in the district and but the tests report were only three patients were positive from dengue fever. He urged the public particularly mediamen not to rely any rumours and case down panic among the public. Replying to another question, he said that there was no dearth of medicines in the govt hospitals and in case anyone has any grouse he should contact the MS or other higher health department officers promptly for the redressed of their grievances. Meanwhile, DO Education (college) said that Anti-dengue Day would be observed in the city so that the unnecessary agony, torture and panic could be decreased and the masses would be appraised of preventive measures. He said that banners would be displayed and pamphlets would be distributed among the public to create awareness regarding the menace.
