'UoG striving for industry academia linkage

Our Staff reporter GUJRAT - PUM Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Thijs Vann Praag has appreciated the astonishing growth of the University of Gujrat (UoG) which according to him has defined the objectives of PUM. PUM was in the field for the last 30 years and was engaged in helping business around the world in multifarious fields like Agriculture, Horticulture, Industry, hotel management, tourism. Their locus of operations was mostly, Africa, Asia, Middle East and South America. Their expertise helped in growing business, production, strengthening organizations and multiplying their incomes. They have a staff which is very experienced and none is less than 30 years experience. They have successfully delivered in Morocco, Egypt, Ukraine and Bolivia. He said that PUM was pleased to revamp business enterprises. They were especially interested in helping small and medium sized enterprises. The Dutch delegation visiting UoG included besides its CEO, Javaid Ashraf (Local Representative Pakistan) Staak Vink (Country coordinator Pakistan) and Fanny Van Der Valk (Project Director). The guests were received by UoG Vice Chancellor Dr Nizamuddin. Mr Yasser Ali Director Institute of Hotel and Restaurant Management (IHRM), in his opening address appreciated the services of PUM for their advice and help in establishing IHRM at UoG. Dr Nizamuddin in his welcome address gave a detailed report on the strategic plan of the university. He explained how the UoG since its inception is orientated towards industrial-Academia Linkages and how researches on social issues links the academia with the society at large. With its inception in 2004 it started building its infrastructure in 2005. After taking charge as VC in 2006 the university moved headlong towards expediting the construction work with the help of the Punjab government and briskly initiated Academic activities. Within a brief span of five years we have successfully launched 48 programmes. The UoG boasts of a sizable students strength of 14400. 65 colleges have been affiliated with the university. University of Gujrat (UOG) believes in developing linkages with industry and developing human resource to cater to the needs of the industrial triangle comprising Gujranwala, Sialkot and Gujrat. Pakistan is badly in need of developing small and medium sized Enterprises to boost up the national economy. PUM is an NGO involved around the world in 70 countries, dispensing expertise on how to manage and develop business industry and entrepreneurship. After CEOs address many businessmen, industrialists, small and medium sized entrepreneurs discussed their problems with the visitors and received valuable advice. Mirza Imtiaz of Metro Industries and ex-president Gujrat Chamber of Commerce, Mr Tariq Maqbool Butt from sports industry and motorcycle manufacture, Mr Noman Butt from Fan Industry and Raja Ghulam Mujtaba from IT and computers discussed business problems and procured PUMs advice. It was a happy productive dialogue which was appreciated by all.
