MIRPUR (AJK) - AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed on Wednesday applauded the recent address of President Asif Ali Zardari at the United Nations General Assembly.Talking to media in Muzaffarabad, the AJK premier said that the president forcefully advocated the right to self-determination of the Kashmiris, which has boosted the morale of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Majeed continued that the president represented the Muslim Ummah at the highest forum of the United Nations regarding blasphemous film and recorded his strong protest against it. He said the president sent a message across the globe that the Muslims could not compromise on blasphemy.The prime minister also lauded the solidarity of the nation on Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (Peace Be Upon Him). He, however, denounced the loss of lives and damages to national properties by some unscrupulous elements in the country.Referring to the Kashmir issue, the AJK prime minister made it clear that establishment of peace in South Asia is not possible without granting the people of Jammu & Kashmir their fundamental right to self-determination.To a question, he said that a Rs60 million plant has been set up for the construction Kuhala-Muzaffarabad Express Way . He also expressed thanks to President Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz for releasing development funds to Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The AJK prime minister announced on the occasion that on October 8 would be a public holiday across Azad Jammu & Kashmir to pay glorious tributes to the victims of the earthquake.WAPDA CHAIRMAN VISITS FLOOD-HIT AREAS: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority has started preparing a master plan to control floods which are caused by the hill torrents in Balochistan, Sindh and Southern Punjab, said Wapda Chairman Raghib Shah. He was on visit to the flood-hit areas in Qambar Shahdadkot and Larkana districts of Sindh as well as Osta Muhammad in Balochistan in order to personally assess and monitor the on-ground flood situation. Speaking on the occasion, the chairman said that Wapda is also providing technical support to the provincial administrations in Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab for passage/drainage of floodwater from the affected areas. Dilating upon various projects, he said that in addition to implementing Right Bank Outfall Drain Project, Wapda is also constructing small and medium-sized projects including Darawat, Nai Gaj, Naulong, Ghabir and Kurram Tangi dams. These projects will help control floods caused by the torrential rains particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, besides socio-economic development in the areas.The chairman directed the GM (Projects) South to maintain close liaison with the provincial as well as local administration till the flood water is drained down to the sea. The chairman also visited RBOD Project. Similar to the devastating floods during 2010, the outfall drains, this year too, have been playing a pivotal role in minimising the losses of flood by providing passage for draining the water, he said. He directed the project authorities to take all measures for protection of RBOD Project while passing the flood, the media release added.
