ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances, Agha Shahbaz Durrani expressing anguish over the sluggishness in the timely completion of the verification process of 95 employees recruited in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) domicile has said that delay in the process is not acceptable.
He stated this while presiding over the meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurance held in the Parliament House on Tuesday.
Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi had asked a question in a sitting of the Senate on March 03, 2016 regarding domiciles verification of 95 FATA employees presently working in PIA and subsequently an assurance was given by Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources on behalf of Minister In-Charge of the Aviation Division. He said that administration is fully active in FATA and delay in the process of verification is beyond understanding. He expressed his dissatisfaction over the attitude of concerned quarters in this regard and stressed the need for early verification of the domiciles.
Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati proposed to seek details from Aviation Division, summon all the political agents and thoroughly examine the issue so that the process could be completed at the earliest. The Committee decided to invite the concerned officials of the FATA Secretariat and the respective political agents in the next meeting to resolve the matter at the earliest.
The Committee also held further discussion on the present status of assurance given by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs on behalf Minister for Capital Administration and Development in response to a calling notice moved by Senator Ch. Tanveer Khan regarding dumping of garbage and waste in Nullah Lai.
Senator Ch. Tanveer Khan stated that Nullah Lai is a great threat to the lives and properties of people in Pindi and appropriate measures need to be taken to avoid any loss in future. In this regard, the committee directed that the CDA should ensure to refer the matter to the Planning Division as assured by the Minister and must come with a viable plan in the next meeting.
On the Assurance given by Minister Incharge of the Establishment Division regarding introduction and passage of constitutional amendment in either House of Parliament for employment quota, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs informed the Committee that the required constitutional amendment would be brought in the Parliament within a week's time. However, the Committee deferred further discussion on the matter for a future meeting of the Committee
The Committee also disposed of the matter pertaining to an assurance in response to the calling attention notice moved by Senator Nuzhat Sadiq on August 05, 2015 about the irrational figure of student –teacher ratio in many government schools of the federal government. The committee termed the response of the Federal Directorate of Education as satisfactory.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Senators Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Sajid Mir, Sardar Muhammad Azam Khan Musakhel, Sirajul Haq, Nighat Mirza, Taj Muhammad Afridi and Ch. Tanveer Khan besides Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab and senior officers of concerned departments.
