LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has been prayed through an application for restraining Director General NAB from continuing with his job after the period of his contractual appointment stands expired with effect from April 20 last. The plea has been filed by one Muhammad Faisal Qureshi in his main petition fixed for hearing on Thursday (today). Through advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddque advocate, the petitioner argues that Rana Zahid Mahmood stands no more DG NAB, after his contractual tenure has come to an end on April 20 last. The petitioner has prayed to the court not only restrain the respondent from holding the office but also entering the office as well as holding any meeting in his official capacity. Notice to Punjab govt: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notice to Punjab government and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on an application filed against closure of a public thoroughfare as a measure to facilitate Liberty Park and Ride Plaza as well as for setting up a food-street. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed issuing notices to the respondents for May 9 observed that public roads could not be obstructed or closed even for the public use. This application was filed in an already pending adjudication petition against the construction of liberty park & ride plaza. Petitioners counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique also placed on record photographs showing that the entrance to the said road had been blocked by installing small poles and chains and erecting huge plants. Referring to a judgment of LHC reported as PLD 2004, the counsel argued that establishment of food street/Sit-out Caf at Mall, Lahore on public street were without authority. He said the Court had also declared that every member of public has a right to pass and travel in public streets. The public have the right over the width and length of the street and each inch of the same. And the residents of the property adjacent to such a street have a right to access of such streets. Nobody has the authority and jurisdiction to even cut this right even to an inch, the counsel reproduced the order and prayed to the court that traders, visiting customers and public at large be allowed to use the public road namely HKB Street and Al-Fateh Street.
