LEAs nail seven terrorists in Karachi raids

KARACHI - The Rangers and police on Saturday arrest seven terrorists during search operations in Layari and Liaquatabad.

Four terrorists were apprehended following exchange of fire between the police and the accused. At four of them are affiliated with Lyari gang war Baba Ladla Group and three are associated with the MQM.

According to details, Chakiwarra police carried out a search operation in Rawarra, area of Layari and nabbed four suspects affiliated with Layari Gang war Baba Ladla Group. Those arrested were identified as Gull Baloch, Hassan Baloch, Sikandar Baloch, and Aslam Baloch while three of their accomplices managed to escape.

The police said that suspects were involved in drug trafficking and drug peddling. However, a huge cache of arms and drugs were recovered from the hideout.

Meanwhile, the Rangers arrested three terrorists associated with the MQM London Secretariat.

According to the Rangers spokesman, Rehan Ali alias Chikna, Zubair alias Achchoo and Javed were affiliated with the MQM London Secretariat. They were involved in different target killing incidents. Four, 303 rifles, SMG, 12 bore Rifle and huge number of bullets have been recovered from their possession. They were later handed over to police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, two other MQM office bearers were apprehended by the Rangers during a search operation in the area of Malir. The suspects include sector incharge, Hassan Alam and joint sector incharge Talha Warsi. Sources said that joint sector incharge was involved in ransacking the media houses on Monday.

On the other hand, police arrested two more women workers of the MQM for their alleged involvement in attacking media houses. These women were identified with the help of CCTV footage. Three women had already been held from Lines Area two days ago in the same case.

Separately, Manghopir police claimed to have apprehended two alleged target killers during search operation. On a tip-off, the police conducted a raid in Manghopir area where the target killers started firing at the police party. The police retaliated and rounded up two target killers alive. The target killers were identified as Asif Ismail and Abid Ustad.

Accordion to police sources, the suspects were affiliated with militant wing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. The suspects confessed of killing several persons including persons of Ismaili and Bohri sects. The Police also claimed to have recovered weapons and a motorcycle from their possession. The suspects were shifted to undisclosed locations for further investigations.

Meanwhile, action against illegally constructed offices of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement continued on Saturday with 14 offices razed and over 220 sealed in Karachi so far. The MQM offices constructed on lands allotted for parks and other public places were demolished, while in fresh action party's unit office situated in Karachi University's staff colony was evacuated. Seven more party offices in Gulistan e Jauhar, New Town, Kharadar, Meetha Dar and Railways Colony were demolished on Friday and early Saturday. A day ago, seven MQM offices were flattened in Bhains Colony, Sachchal, Airport, Tariq bin Ziad Society and Quaidabad. So far, 14 party offices have been demolished and 218 sealed in Karachi.

Residents kept gazing the action as heavy machinery leveled the offices. A few opportunists were also seen plundering things out of the rubble.

Officials said that 178 of party unit offices and 22 sector offices are situated on encroached lands. They said that a decision has been made to immediately demolish 32 of these offices, while others would be razed gradually.

Meanwhile, Karachi University administration said that MQM unit office in the staff colony has also been evacuated, while MQM posters, party flags and portraits of the party supremo Altaf Hussain have also been removed from the campus.
