LAHORE National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab has filed a reference against Muhammad Saleem, ex-postmaster, Bahawalnagar on the charges of embezzlement of public money amounting Rs 4,75,337 through bogus money order receipts and miscellaneous head of accounts. According to the details, investigation was started against the accused on complaints of management of Post Office department. It revealed during investigation that the accused Muhammad Saleem while posted as incharge Sub-Post Office Bahawalnagar Cantt during 2006 misappropriated Rs 4,75,337 through bogus money orders receipts and miscellaneous head of account including net cash. The accused used to issue money order receipts to remitters of money order and also dispatch money orders booked to respective offices for payment so that no public complaint may occur. However, he retained carbon copy of money order issue receipt without money order issue journals required to be sent to GPO Bahawalnagar in support of entries of money orders issued amount made therein. NAB Punjab after detail scrutiny of record and collection of incriminating evidence, completed the investigation and filed reference no 31/2010 in accountability court, Lahore on Monday.
