CHITRAL : A female schoolteacher allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Chitral River in Charun village on Thursday. Police spokesman said the reasons behind the incident were yet to be ascertained, adding the local police started an investigation. He said the suicide victim, in her early 40s, was married to Jaffar Khan and had four children. She was posted at Government Girls Primary School, Lone. A villager of Charun, requesting not to be named, said the teacher was mentally disturbed and under treatment for the last many years.
 She had also tried to commit suicide a few years back, he added.
The body was retrieved from the river and buried. The husband of the deceased is employed in a private firm in Dubai (UAE).
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old school girl from Awi Lasht died after a makeshift bridge over the river collapsed. The girl along with two other girls was crossing the bridge near Booni. Police sources identified the deceased as Sana. They were going to Awi village situated on the other side of the river when the incident occurred.
