SIALKOT - Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Asif said that the Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) will sweep the July 21 general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir as it has fielded energetic candidates for the polls.
Addressing a meeting of UC chairmen, vice chairmen and councilors held at his residence at Sialkot Cantt, he said that the Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz has a clear political edge on all the other main political parties and was in very strong position to win the AJK general elections.
Earlier, Federal Defense Minister held an open court at Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz House Sialkot. He listened to public complaints and problems.
He issued orders for solution to their grievances. He asked the district heads of the department to utilise their full energies for serving the people without any political discrimination. Later, he also distributed cheques to deserving poor.
He also pledged to leave no stone unturned for the development of Sialkot, saying the government was spending billions of rupees for the purpose.
He said Sialkot’s uplift will be made by initiating several mega development projects including the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway Project. He said that government was making efforts to make Sialkot a developed and model district of the country following the global industrial significance of the city.
Talking to the local MPAs and party workers, he said that the two mega projects of establishing Sialkot-Lahore Motorway and a Ring Road around the Sialkot city would be executed very soon.
He revealed that the Punjab government was actively working on a plan of shifting of the Sialkot Jail, Sialkot District Courts and all the government offices from Sialkot city to the outskirts. He said that under this multi-phased plan, the government would also establish a big recreational park for public on the land being evacuated after shifting jail, district courts and all the government offices to the outskirts.
He reviewed the project of establishing an overhead bridge and an underpass in Sialkot city. Officials said that the project of construction an overhead bridge at Sialkot city’s congested China Chowk and an underpass at Shahabpura Chowk Sialkot would be started soon.
