Tribal elders to help establish peace during elections



BAJAUR AGENCY - Elders and Ulema of the Mamond Tribe on Wednesday assured the local administration of their full support for keeping peace for holding elections in the region.
They said that no one would be allowed to sabotage peace and writ of the government during the elections in the area.
The elders of Mamond Tribe made this assurance during a grand Jirga with the officials of local administration here at Khar on Wednesday. Hundreds of senior elders, leaders and members of various Village Defence Committees (VDCs) of Tehsil Mamond.
Political Agent Bajaur Syed Abdul Jabar Shah and other senior officials attended the Jirga.
Law and order situation in the area, security strategy regarding the holding of coming election and recent border attacks by the militants in the region were discussed in the jirga.
Addressing the jirga, political agent said that being a Pakistani the security of the country was the basic duty of every one and especially for the tribesmen.
He said the tribesmen were famous for the safeguard of country’s boundaries.
He said that though the agency had cleared from the militants and peace and writ of the government had been restored in the entire agency but it does not mean that the militants had been eliminated forever.
“Tribesmen should realize the situation and perform their duty with honesty and the militants still a serious threat to peace because they don’t want normalcy and prosperity in the region,” he said.
He said that the militants could start attacks on the border areas of the agency and the elders and members of peace committees must prepare to counter the militant’s activities in the region.
