ISLAMABAD - Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday declared the Taliban had been ‘marginalised’ and the people had ‘rejected their misplaced ideology’.
General Raheel Sharif visited field formations deployed in Waziristan on Tuesday and spoke high of their professional commitment and the sacrifices they have rendered in bringing peace and normalcy in the troubled regions.
During his visit, the army chief mingled with the troops and listened to their issues, says a press release issued here.
While talking to the troops, he commended their professional commitment and paid rich tributes to them for their sacrifices in bringing peace and normalcy to the troubled regions.
The COAS reviewed the progress of mega and micro projects of socio-economic significance, being undertaken by the Army, and appreciated them for quality of work and timely completion.
He particularly mentioned the construction of Central Trade Corridor, a 714-kilometre road network, linking Pakistan’s Indus Highway and Waziristan agencies with the Afghan Ring Road, which is already beginning to bring great economic dividend to the local residents of the region.
The COAS visited other community development schemes in health, education, water and power projects, as part of successful programme for rehabilitation of the people.
Later, the COAS visited recently established Cadet College Spinkai Raghzai and lauded the college administration for the standard of education and administration being maintained.
Talking to the cadets, he said that these education projects completed by the Army would go a long way to groom a new generation of young Pakistanis from such remote areas and integrate them in the national mainstream.
Appreciating the determination and steadfastness of the troops and locals, COAS emphasized that together the whole nation has rejected the misplaced ideology of the terrorists, who have clearly lost their cause already and are being marginalised.
He reiterated Pakistan Army’s continued and wholehearted support for tribal brethren under all circumstances.
MILITANTS CLASH LEAVES 4 DEAD
At least four militants were killed and three others injured when two groups of militants clashed with each other in Shawal area of North Waziristan tribal region early Tuesday morning.
The mountainous terrain of Shawal is divided between North and South Waziristan. The clash occurred in Tuesday’s small hours in Wacha Darra, 60 kilometers from North Wazristan Agency’s headquarters Miranshah.
