LAHORE - The federal government on Thursday told the Lahore High Court that Rs30.7 million were spent on the recent visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the United States.
As the hearing started, a law officer told the court that parliament had approved a fund for foreign tours of Prime Minister. On it, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah observed that the court would see whether it had jurisdiction to question the funds approved by the parliament.
In previous hearing, Justice Shah had directed the federal government to come up with details of expenses incurred during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to New York (United States), otherwise, the fine would be imposed on the federal government.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree, through his petition, had challenged foreign tours of the prime minister along with his family and servants. He alleged that Premier Nawaz Sharif stayed at a hotel that cost Rs800,000 for a night during his recent visit to New York.
The petitioner also submitted that the prime minister and his family always did personal business development deals with others in foreign countries. He said the mental examination of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should be conducted as for many times he brought bad name to the country by taking local food items with him to present them to heads of other states.
He pleaded the court to put the names of Nawaz Sharif and his family on Exit Control List and stop them from misusing the public money during their foreign visits.
The proceedings were adjourned till a week as the petitioner’s counsel was not present in the court.
