Khursheed likens Nawaz to Modi

| Supports farmers rally against govt

LAHORE -  Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Tuesday likened Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with Indian PM Modi, stating both were pursuing anti-farmer policies.

“If Indian Modi is stopping farmers water, Pakistani Modi is committing their economic murder. What’s the difference then between this Modi and the one across the border.” he said while addressing a news conference at a local hotel here.

Condemning the government for arresting farmers ahead of their planned rally in Lahore, he said that instead of making the world realise about Indian terrorism, the government was bent upon [economic] killing of farmers.

Supporting farmers case against the government, he said that so-called Kissan Package did not produce any results.

He asked the government to accept all their genuine demands besides releasing their representatives.

He said that he had the information that scores of farmers have been arrested from different cities. Many have been picked by police from their houses, he added.

He said that the government had made tall claims of resolving farmers problems but it did nothing in practical terms.

He was of the view that government was trying to worsen the situation instead of setting the things right.

“The key to normalise the situation lies with the government”, he added.

Replying to a question, he said that his party supported the government in 2014 to save the Parliament. At that time, the govt was totally unnerved as a result of the pressure coming from different quarters, he said.

Also, the PPP will participate in the farmers rally to be taken out on Wednesday (today) in Lahore. It will start from Governor House and culminate at Chairing Cross.
