Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Chairman Dr Farhan Ebadat Yar Khan said that both public and private sectors were playing a key role in educational promotion but a few private institutions were charging exorbitant fees but not providing basic facilities for the students.
During a meeting, he said that such institutions did not provide the students with libraries and labs which is what he said fundamental right of student and a basic requirement as per the board’s rules and regulation. “The institutions of private sector have to follow the basic SOP of the board and directions of the Education Department. There will be no compromise on it,” he said.
The chairman said that nations having strong footings in education were ruling the world. “The Punjab chief minister launched special initiatives and was introducing reforms in the education sector. A many steps have been taken by him for educational improvement. Danish Schools have been established in the province. Books are being provided for the students free of cost. Scholarships are also being awarded. Reasonable amounts are being given to the position holders as award. This all is to improve education,” he said.
STUDENT ENROLMENT DRIVE BEGINS: In Noorpur Thal, on the directives of the Punjab government, the Education Department has launched a special emergency enrolment campaign targeting the children of school going age.  Talking to the newsmen, DDO Education Madam Aziz Akhtar Niazi said as many as 3.5 million children would be enrolled in schools in the Punjab under universal primary enrolment campaign. She said that special survey committees would pay visits on daily basis to check how many new students were studying at schools in different villages of the Thal.
She further said that action would be taken against the head teachers of such school where the number of students showed a decrease. Aziz Akhtar also stated that all AO Education had been deputed as focal persons in each educational sub-division of the Thal to ensure 100 per cent admission of all out of school children.
ANTI-DENGUE WALK: The medical staff of THQ Hospital took out a rally from THQ Hospital to General Bus Stand for creating awareness amongst the masses about precautions and eradication of dengue mosquito and its larvae. The rally was led by MS Dr Muhammad Amir Umar. A large number of people from different walk of life participated in the rally.
