JCP proposes ex-justice Riaz for FSC CJ post

ISLAMABAD - Judicial Commission of Pakistan Wednesday recommended Justice (retd) Riaz Ahmed Khan for the Chief Justice of Federal Shariat Court and Justice Faisal Arab, a judge of Sindh High Court, for the position of Chief Justice of SHC.
The JCP also proposed the name of Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Maqbool Baqir for the judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Judicial Commission meeting was held in the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir-ul-Mulk and participated by four senior judges of Supreme Court, ex-judge of SC, Law Minister, representative of Pakistan Bar Council and Attorney General for Pakistan.
Justice Faisal Arab is the President of a three-judge Special Court holding trial of former President and ex-Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution for imposing emergency on 3rd November 2007 in the country.
The sources said that Justice Faisal Arab’s appointment as CJ SHC would not affect the proceedings of the Special Court and he would continue to perform his responsibilities as President of Special Court.
The recommendation of the Commission would be sent to the Parliament Committee on appointment of judges of superior court for approval.
