PM for resolving issues through talks

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan is keen to enhance the regional cooperation for the socio-economic betterment of the entire South Asia. He added that the longstanding issues must be resolved through dialogue in order to achieve the desired results. The Prime Minister was talking to Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi who called on him at the Prime Ministers House on Monday. While referring to the recently concluded SAARC Interior Ministers Conference, the visit of Dr Zalmai Rassoul, Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, and the Foreign Secretary level talks with India, the Prime Minister expressed confidence these interactions would pave way to regional peace and security ultimately leading to progress and prosperity of the region. The Prime Minister said that the necessity for international support to socio-economic change in the region through reforms has been felt even at the recent G-8 meeting in Canada. The acknowledgement of Pakistans efforts, he said, in the same platform for the regional peace and security as well as efforts to root out violent extremists is encouraging. The Foreign Minister briefed the Prime Minister about the recently held Foreign Secretary level talks between Pakistan and India. He also apprised the Prime Minister of his interaction with the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan as well as the Indian Home Minister.
