Kundi backs Seraiki province

ISLAMABAD - Demanding inclusion of Dera Ismail Khan in the proposed Seraiki province, the Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly said that it was high time to respond positively to the longstanding demand of Seraiki people. Talking to a delegation of Seraiki intellectuals led by Zahoor Ahmad Daraja, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi hoped that the manifesto committee of Pakistan Peoples Party would definitely include Dera Ismail Khan in the proposed Seraiki province as over 90 per cent of the population of Dera Ismail Khan was Seraiki speaking. On the direction of party Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari the manifesto committee of the party was preparing a report on the Seraiki province and would submit its report to the President soon, he said. Faisal Karim Kundi said that the circumstances were quite conducive for creation of the Seraiki province as both the Governor Punjab and Prime Minister are Seraiki speaking and termed it a high time for meeting the demand of the people of Southern Punjab and the areas where majority of Seraiki speaking people are living. Faisal Karim Kundi said that he himself was Pashtun but keeping in view the aspirations of the people of his constituency as well as the demand of Seraiki people he was supporting their cause. He dispelled the impression that the Pakistan Peoples Party was supporting the cause of Seraiki province on the basis of linguistic or regional divide but they were supporting the new province purely on the basis of administrative grounds. He also supported the campaign of Hazara province and said that the people of Hazara had their separate geographic and cultural identity and their demand for separate province was genuine.
