ISLAMABAD: Interior Ministry today filed an appeal in Supreme Court (SC) against Sindh High Court’s (SHC) decision to remove Ayyan Ali’s name from Exit Control List (ECL).
The petition was filed by advocate on record.
The plea has adopted the stance that a notice was sent to Ayyan Ali regarding the inclusion of her name in ECL.
It said that Ayyan could have approach the interior ministry to review the decision however; she neither contacted with the authorities nor used her right to relief.
The petition requested the court to annul SHC’s decision as it is against law and unjustified.
Two weeks back, SC suspended SHC’s verdict in the same case on the petition of customs.
Ayyan submitted a reply over the ECL row on the directions of court in which she stated that customs authorities never informed about putting her name on ECL, however; she came to know about it from media.
Ayyan Ali was booked in March last year at Islamabad’s Benazir International Airport for attempt to smuggle US $506,800 to United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Airport Security Force (ASF) had apprehended Ali before she allegedly boarded a private airline flight.
After almost nine months of her arrest, the model was indicted in the currency smuggling case but she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A trial into the case is still underway.
