ISLAMABAD - Law Minister Farooq H Naek called on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at PM House here Monday and discussed legal issues with specific reference to the petitions filed by PTI and PML-N challenging the speaker’s ruling on the PM disqualification matter.
Sources in the PPP informed The Nation that the party leadership was perturbed over the petitions and the party leadership would be meeting in Islamabad in a couple of days to evolve strategy to tackle this challenge on legal and political fronts.
Sources said the PPP was preparing for fighting it out on political grounds and was less likely to focus on the legal side. They said the party and her allies would try to turn it into a parliament versus judiciary case, and would prefer to contest the case on streets and in the public instead of the courtroom.
A handout issued by the PM Secretariat said the law minister, who is also chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Balochistan, discussed with the PM different issues of Balochistan that would be taken up in a high-level meeting to be held tomorrow in Islamabad. The meeting will be presided over by the prime minister and attended by the leadership of Balochistan and representatives of security and law enforcement agencies.
