ISLAMABAD - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Federal Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters (GHQ) and discussed with him the overall internal and external security matters with specific reference to the recent drone attack in Balochistan.
The issues pertaining to the national security came under discussion at the meeting which stretched over two hours. All the three agreed on the positive impact of the surgical operation against criminals in southern Punjab districts, sources in the government revealed.
Both the sides expressed deep concern over the recent drone attack killing Taliban leader Mulla Akhtar Mansour near Noshki in Balochistan and took it a sheer violation of the sovereignty of the state, the sources said, adding the army chief told the Punjab chief minister and the interior minister about his recent meeting with the US Ambassador at the GHQ.
Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the COAS of the ailment of the prime minister and his open heart surgery due on Tuesday next. The army chief prayed for the success of the surgery and early recovery of the premier.
The sources said the interior minister briefed the army chief on the steps being taken by his ministry for verification of the national identity cards to trace the bogus CNICs to check the miscreants using Pakistan’s nationality in future.
The issue of early rehabilitation of Afghan refugees back to their country also figured in the meeting and it was agreed that a comprehensive plan for their safe return to their homeland should be put in place at the earliest.
The army chief told both Shehbaz and Nisar about the successes Pakistan Army had achieved in the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb and the rehabilitation of the temporarily displaced persons back to their areas.
