ISLAMABAD - The FIA has made two more arrests in connection with the issuance of fake Pakistani identity card and passport to former Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour who was killed in a drone strike in Balochistan.
A Pakistani CNIC (Computerised National Identity Card) and green passport with the cover name of Wali Muhammad had been found from the drone attack site in which Mansour was killed. He used to travel internationally on this forged identity.
The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested Aziz Ahmed Khan, a risaldar major of Levies force who had verified the CNIC form of Wali Muhammad (Mansour) in 2001, a spokesman of the interior ministry said.
Furthermore, an official of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), Riffat Iqbal has also been arrested from Karachi in this case. Riffat had gone missing from his duty after the killing of Taliban chief.
The federal agency, on the directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, had launched an investigation into verification of Mansour's applications for getting fake Pakistani national identity card and passport.
According to the ministry, Riffat had also tried to enter the names of second wife and children of Mullah Akhtar Mansour into the family tree of Wali Muhammad in an effort to grant them Pakistani nationality. The accused was deputed at Nadra's Karachi office.
Prior to this, FIA had summoned Pashin Deputy Commissioner Hafiz Muhammad Tahir to get his statement as the officer had verified Pakistani nationality of Taliban chief for the issuance of his passport in 2005 during his posting in Pashin.
FIA had also arrested Muhammad Rafiq Tareen from Quetta who had verified Taliban leader’s passport application during his posting as tehsildar in Qila Abdullah, Balochistan.
