Elderly man dies as India shells AJK village

MIRPUR (AJK) - An elderly civilian embraced martyrdom as a result of unprovoked shelling by the Indian troops from across the Line of Control (LoC) on a forward village of Havaili district in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Tuesday, officials said.
Indian forces opened fire without any provocation on Chirikot village located in Haveili district along the LoC killing an 80-year-old local resident Muhammad Din on the spot, said Abdul Hamid Mughal, Additional Home Secretary and incharge officer of central control room of AJK government in Muzaffarabad while talking to The Nation.
The ill-fated Muhammad Din was busy in routine work at his home when came under attack by Indian shelling which lasted for some hours.
The people of the firing-hit villages along the LoC in Chirikot Sector confined themselves in their houses due to unprovoked Indian shelling which continued intermittently. However, the morale of the local population was high and there were no reports of shifting of any of the family from the firing-hit areas to other safer places.
