SARGODHA - The government has formed raiding teams to take legal action against smokers in schools, colleges and other educational institutions.
District Coordinator of Ministry of Health Saif Ahmad Malik during a meeting at EDO office, said that 274 people die in Pakistan daily due to smoking while over 5,000 meet with fatal diseases because of smoking. He said that at least 1,200 children from 6 to 15 years get indulge in smoking on daily basis across the country. He said in accordance with the 2004 Act, smokers at public places would be fined at least Rs1,000, or both fine and imprisonment. He said, “We should launch a campaign to save our youth from the deadly habit of smoking and teachers could play a vital role in this connection.”
