MUZAFFARGARH - Five children and a woman, belonging to two families, were burnt alive when a fire swept through makeshift houses and a stock of husk-made mats in a village Bhatti near the shrine of Pir Mitha in Sanawan, Tehsil Kot Addu, some 80-km from here on Friday.
Muzaffargarh DPO Awaise Malik confirmed the deaths of five children and a woman in the fire that initially erupted in a stock of husk-made mats. “Someone threw a live cigarette into the heap of husk-made mats, which engulfed the houses all of sudden,” he added.
It took the Rescue 1122 fire-fighters more than six hours to douse the inferno, the informed.
Resultantly, six persons including a woman, a teenage girl and four minor children were burnt alive.
The girl 14-year-old Naureen and her brother succumbed to their burns in DHQ Hospital Muzaffargarh. Rescue 1122 emergency officer Dr Irshad Ahmed said that the makeshift houses of labourers along with stock of husk-made mats and other products were burnt to ashes. Sanawan Police SHO Amjad Khalid said that fire-fighters managed to put out the fire after hectic efforts for six hours.
The police said that the deceased kids and woman were identified as: eight-year-old Hamid, 14-year-old Naureen, one and half years old Hania, four-year Arsalan, 25-year-old Amna, wife of Allah Wasaya and her son Tahir Abbas while Imran’s wife Haleema sustained critical burns.
