PM must take parliament into confidence over Panama leaks, says Aitzaz

LAHORE - Opposition Leader in the Senate and senior PPP leader Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said yesterday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif instead of addressing public rallies should have taken the parliament into confidence over Panama leaks issue.

Talking to media at Lahore High Court, he said prime minister and his family’s assets abroad should be investigated.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif must tell the public that how such huge assets were shifted abroad,” he posed a question.

Aitzaz said Panama leaks had blamed the incumbent government for corruption, dishonesty and money laundering. The son of PM Nawaz Sharif had confessed himself that he had his business abroad, he added.

The PPP leader stressed that the issue of Panama leaks must be investigated by International audit experts. “The Prime Minister should have told the parliament truth but he has started addressing rallies,” said Aitzaz.

The prime minister and his team have started opposition bashing campaign to divert people’s attention, Aitzaz said.

He said how a man who used to pay Rs 470 tax became so rich that he made huge foreign assets. He also alleged corruption in other development projects by the ruling party.

He also demanded that government should discuss terms of reference (ToRs) of the proposed judicial commission with the opposition parties. Opposition is all set to form a joint strategy on Panama leaks in its May 2 meeting.
