Seven injured in Peshawar blast

PESHAWAR - At least seven people including a traffic warden sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near Charsadda bus stand early in the morning on Friday.

A bomb planted by unknown miscreants at Charsadda bus stand adjacent to the duty point of traffic police warden went off with a big bang, resultantly, traffic warden Sajjad Khan along with six other passers-by sustained injuries. 

Police sources said that it is believed that traffic police constable Sajjad was the target. The constable Sajjad Khan along with Hazratullah, Hidayat Khan, Fayaz, Almas and Faiz Khan received wounds in the explosion. They all were rushed to nearby Lady Reading Hospital. 

Hospital sources said that condition of traffic warden is critical, while others were out of danger. Police said that it was a remote-controlled blast. The IED was weighing around 1.5 Kg.

Soon after the blast, police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Police collected evidences from the spot and registered a case against unknown miscreants. 

Meanwhile, police apprehended at last 65 suspects including 10 Afghan nationals here in the jurisdiction of provincial metropolis.

Police said that on tip off information raids were carried out Faqirabad, Shenwari town and Qazi Kali.

During the raids, at least 65 suspects including 10 Afghan nationals for having no valid documents were arrested. Besides, police also recovered arms and ammunition from the suspects.
