KOHAT - Militants attacked a passengers van, killing at least four people and injuring five others here on Sunday.
Police said a passenger van was on the way to Orakzai Agency from Hangu when some armed men attacked it near Marai area, leaving four people dead and five others injured.
The injured included two women and three children of the same family. They were shifted to District Headquarter Hospital Kohat. Being informed, a police team rushed to the site, cordoned off the area and kicked off search operation. The passengers who were killed had come to Kohat for Ramazan shopping and were going to Orakzai Agency.
Police suspected the attack could be the militants’ reaction against the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan Agency.
KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has strongly condemned the firing of unknown miscreants on a passenger coach on Marezai Road in Zeda area of Kohat, bordering tribal agency, which led to killing of four persons who were travelling to Aurakzai Agency from Kohat.
He on receiving information about the tragic incident took notice of it and asked the local administration and police authorities to come in action forthwith and develop close liaison with political administration of adjacent Aurakzai Agency to search out the culprits involved in it and bringing them in the court of law.
The chief minister made it clear that the provincial government will never tolerate such bloody incidents, especially during the holy month of Ramazan.
He prayed for eternal peace of the killed, early recovery of the injured. He expressed heartfelt sympathies with members of the grieved families.
