JI Gujranwala ameer, naib survive attack


GUJRANWALA - The Jamaat-e-Islami Gujranwala District Ameer and Naib Ameer along with a passerby were critically injured during an assassination attempt while campaigning here in NA-98 Qila Dedar Singh on Friday afternoon.
As per details, JI District Ameer Bilal Qudrat Butt who is also candidate for NA-98, was holding a corner meeting in Mohallah Mian Sahib when unknown assailants fired gunshots on them and fled away. Resultantly, he along with the party district Naib Ameer Siddique Ahsan Butt and a passerby sustained bullet injuries and were rushed to DHQ Hospital. Meanwhile, a large number of Jamaat workers and office-bearers gathered in the hospital and protested against the assassination attempt on the party candidate.
It has been learnt that Qila Dedar Singh-based Bilal Qudrat Butt was attacked by Pathan group of the town for pursuing a murder case against them. The police have been investigating the incident.
GCCI pins hope on Sethi:  The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) members and office-bearers have welcomed the appointment of Najam Sethi as the Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister.  They stressed that free, fair and transparent elections were imperative to eliminate the uncertainty prevailed in the country. They hoped the caretaker government would ensure conduct of conduct elections in an effective manner as it was need of the hour. They also hoped that under the supervision of Najam Sethi good things would happen as he possessed an impartial personality and versatile experience.  “We do believe that the caretaker Punjab CM will leave spare no effort for streamlining the current issues being faced by the business community,” they pointed out, adding that he (Sethi) would help the business community of Punjab cope with the crippling energy crisis. They reposed confidence in the personality of Najam Sethi and hope that he would come up to the expectations of the public.
