Islamabad- After Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate and AJK President Barrister Sultan Mehmood won the Mirpur seat in the by-election, many political leaders and workers have reportedly contacted the party leadership in AJK and Pakistan, expressing their willingness to join the party.
According to sources, the defeat of Pakistan People’s Party candidate, who was also backed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, has sent ripples through the political circle both in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan.
The sources said that some die-hard workers of the PPP and PML-N openly campaigned for the PTI candidate in the Mirpur by-elections, after feeling dejection from their respective leadership.
The sources said that several Kashmiri leaders including Abdus Salam Butt, Abid Hassan Abid, Zafar Iqbal Abbasi, Sikandar Hayat, Tariq Farooq Chaudhry Aziz and others have felicitated Sultan for winning the by-election. According to the sources, some of the leaders have expressed their earnest desire to hold meetings with the PTI chief Imran Khan, before formally joining the party.
