At least 17 militants were killed and several others injured when fighter jets bombed suspected hideouts of militants here in Parachinar on Thursday.
According to official sources, the security forces through jet fighters targeted the hideouts of militants in Tabay area of Kurram agency.
Four insurgent hideouts were destroyed in the action resulting in death of 17 militants and leaving several others injured.
Sources said that death toll may rise further as some miscreants were reported buried under the rubble of destroyed hideouts and few injured were also stated to be in critical condition.
It should be mentioned that a military operation has been ongoing in central Kurram for past three weeks. Reportedly, at least 100 militants have been killed and several insurgent hideouts have been destroyed during this time.
Kurram, which is close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, is one of the seven regions in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), governed by tribal laws. An extremist insurgency led by the Pakistani Taliban plagues the region while the area is known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda, Taliban and several other armed extremist organizations.
