EU, UNDP concerned over women vote bar

ISLAMABAD - The European Union (EU) mission in Pakistan and United Nations Development programme (UNDP) in a joint statement on allegations of women being barred from voting in KP local government elections, asked the government Friday to ensure that women cast their votes freely and without intimidation.
Responding quickly to the letter sent by the EU/UNDP the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed the Chief Secretary KP to ensure that women in the province exercise their fundamental right of franchise freely and without any intimidation.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has asked Amjad Ali Khan, Chief Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to personally see the matter and ensure that women are, in no case, debarred from casting their votes.
