Punjab Law Minister and Cabinet Committee on Peace Chairman Rana Sanaullah said that foolproof security measures were being adopted to maintain peace and tranquillity in the upcoming holy month of Muharramul Haram and the law enforcement agencies had been put on alert to cope with any contingency.
“Ulema and scholars from all schools of thoughts have been taken into confidence to ensure harmony among different sects and thwart the designs of anti-state elements.”
He was talking to the media after chair a meeting of the peace committee here on Tuesday. Rana Sanaullah said that the police and district administrations had been organising meeting with Ulema and religious scholars to put in place effective measures to root out sectarianism and religious hatred. He said the code of ethics and implementation on law would be ensured in Muharram and coordination among parliamentarians and notables of society needed to achieve desired results.
Rana Sanaullah informed that an emergency control centre was being established under the supervision of the Punjab CM to look after the overall law and order situation across the province.
He directed the police and district administrative officers for personally visit routes and venues of Muharram processions and majalis and improve liaison with the organisers and Ulema to avert any misunderstanding.
The Provincial Law Minister maintained that main object of the peace committee meeting was to chalk out effective arrangements for peace during Muharram in the light of suggestions of Ulema from different schools of thoughts.
He categorically declared that there were a complete ban on making objectionable speeches, distribution of hatred literature, display of arms and illegal use of loudspeakers, warning that stern action would be taken against violators.
Earlier, Sargodha Divisional Commissioner Iqbal Muhammad Chohan informed the participants of the meeting that 1,233 Muharram processions would be emerged while 5,440 Majalis would be held across the division which had been divided into different categories. Additional Chief Secretary Sohail Ahmed, Home Secretary Maj Azam Suleman, Punjab IG Police Khan Baig, Sargodha RPO Muhammad Ishaq Jahangir, the DCO and others attended the meeting.
