NAB gets Tauqir’s remand for 12 more days





ISLAMABAD - National Accountability Bureau (NAB) obtained 12 days physical remand of former chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tauqir Sadiq here from an accountability court on Friday.
The accountability court granted physical remand of Tauqir Sadiq, prime accused of OGRA multibillion rupees scam and ordered to produce Tauqir before the court on September 10. Earlier NAB requested the court to grant physical remand of 14 days but the court ordered for 12 days physical remand of the principal accused of OGRA scam.
NAB Prosecutor Barrister Saeed-U-Rehman told the court that statements of four senior officials of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) were recorded on August 22 and the recovery has yet to be made from UAE bank accounts disclosed by the accused during interrogation.
The NAB Prosecutor further said that Rs 3.2 billion have been recovered in this case so far. Tauqir Sadiq’s partner has returned a sum of Rs 13.4 million in the form of cheque which he had received on account of commission. Among two more accused, one Sajid is residing in Ajman and second Abdul Ghafoor, uncle of Tauqir Sadiq, is Canadian national and he is in Canada.
The NAB also presented the medical fitness report of Tauqir in the AC. According to this report, Tauqir’s eyesight is all right and his hand pain is old one, which requires medical treatment.
Counsel for Tauqir opposed the NAB plea for seeking more remand of his client, saying investigation was not made during 8 out of 14 days remand, therefore, further remand should not be granted.
