ISLAMABAD - The politically motivated pulls and pushes have ignited already charged political fronts in AJK, and politics of manoeuvring stands in full swing. So far, the PML-Ns paving way into the AJKs political corridors has received success. Ten incumbent members of AJK Legislative Assembly (LA) from different political parties have publicly declared their affiliations with PML-N while three other members, requesting anonymity, confirmed to The Nation on Thursday that they would formally join N-League next week. The incumbent legislators who joined PML-N are Raja Farooq Haider, Shah Ghulam Qadir, Raja Nisar, Raja Naseer, Shaukat Ali Shah, Sardar Naeem, Noreen Arif, Raja Siddique, Munsafdad Khan and Tariq Farooq. Raja Farooq Haider had told this scribe last Saturday that his party had adopted a cautious approach towards inclusion of new members and only those politicians who had credibility and stature would be welcomed in the folds of N-League. Sardar Sikandar Hayat also told The Nation that party slots and new inclusions would be announced after detailed scrutiny, in the coming week while Shah Ghulam Qadir had claimed that PML-N would easily grab the support of 25 legislators of the total 49 in AJK LA. Some key announcements reportedly to be made next week would include the appointments of Sardar Sikandar Hayat, Raja Farooq Haider and Shah Ghulam Qadir as Chairman, President and Secretary General of PML-N respectively. Ten of the twelve Kashmiri refugee seats of AJK Legislative Assembly in Pakistan are also likely to go to N-League in the next years general polls. PML-N central leadership is reportedly in contact with Jamaat-e-Islami for an expected political alliance for Aprils general elections in AJK. The Nation in August this year had first broken the story that the next years general elections in AJK would be held in April as PM AJK was mulling over dissolving the AJK Legislative Assembly only to curtail PML-N vote bank in AJK. On the other hand, the PPP AJK chapter, which is directly supported by a powerful federal minister and enjoys the patronage of top government functionaries has succeeded to win back the support of Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry. Majority of the leaders who were part of Sultan Mehmoods former Peoples Muslim League (PML) have joined PPP, with exception to Yasin Gulshan, Colonel Ghani and Arshad Ghazi who opted for joining PML-N. The inclusion of top politicians like Sardar Yaqoob and Rafique Naiyar in PPP also omens strong vote bank for the party. Efforts are underway by the PPP and PML-N to get the support of Chaudhry Yousuf, former key ally of the AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique. The other day, Barrister Sultan Mehmood had claimed during a conversation with this scribe that PPP would make a clean sweep in Aprils elections. Political indicators envisage barely any role for the Muslim Conference in AJKs political set-up. Majority of the MCs key leaders has either sided with PML-N or PPP. Apparently, there is virtually no role for Sardar Attique and his family in the future political arrangement of AJK.
