Attack on Press Club condemned

LAKKI MARWAT Local journalist communities of Lakki Marwat and Naurang have strongly condemned the attack on press club and torturing of their colleagues by teachers in Dir. In a meeting held here with Hafiz Minhajud Din in chair, the participants unanimously adopted a resolution wherein they condemned the incident and demanded of the government to arrest the teachers leaders nominated in the FIR. Teaching is a noble profession as teachers are placed on high esteem in the society, they maintained. They said that to take law in hands on part of teachers was a condemnable act. By taking law into their hands, they said, the teachers had disrespected their noble profession. They said that the district correspondents should ensure equal coverage of all groups and segments of society. The participants also expressed deep grief and sadness over the sad demise of a senior journalist Alamgir Bhettani who died of cardiac arrest the other day. They expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and offered fateha for the deceased journalist. Ghulam Mursalin Marwat, Muhammad Adeel, Nadim Khattak, Rustam Khan, Gul Tayyaz Marwat, Zaitullah Bettanni and others attended the meeting. Meanwhile, teachers leaders of the district have called upon the political and social elite of Dir to come forward and patch up dispute between journalists and teachers. Talking to reporters on Saturday, APTAs District General Secretary Haji Abdul Rahim, Employees Coordination Council Vice President Jamil Ahmad Khan and ATA leader Shakir Tajazai said that teachers and journalists belonged to noble profession hence they should cling to patience and promote tolerance in the society. It is the prime responsibility of journalists to be impartial and prove their impartiality from their write ups and news stories, they maintained, calling upon the elders of Dir to play their role in shunning differences and burying disputes between the teachers and journalists.
